Golconda Fort

Day 10

We were really excited to get out of the apartment today- you can only play so many thousand games of hide-and-seek in one day. One of the most famous sites in Hyderabad is Golconda Fort, built in the 13th century. It's amazing how enormous it is, and what they were able to build so long ago.

It's hard to tell, but they used the boulders already there and built them right into the fort. It was pretty impressive.

When driving to our court date with the staff from her foster home we had asked if she got carsick. "No no," they assured us, she only fell asleep in the car. That's actually very wrong and today was the day we discovered that, as she barfed all over herself and Geoff on the way to the fort. We decided to just go back to the apartment and change before heading to the fort as we weren't prepared at all and she was covered in throw up. Parenting lesson #321, pack and extra outfit and baby wipes, always.

Someone's little legs are not used to walking for long distances, so she got a ride for much of the sightseeing.

Today was also the day we followed up on getting the written document stating we had passed court and were legally Vennela's parents. Past families had been waiting 1-2 weeks for this document, and that's what we expected as well. Today we found out the attorney representing the orphanage's adoption cases had surgery just a couple days after our court date. No big deal, we thought (spoiler alert: we were wrong).

After a hot and tiring morning we had a relaxing afternoon at the apartment, and I won the fun parent award by introducing Vennela to one of my favorite childhood memories, coloring on yourself with washable markers.
